Facility Use During Weather-Related Restrictions

During the 2025 school year, Irving ISD experienced multiple weather-related impacts, affecting the ability to safely conduct outdoor activities.

The Facility Planning Committee (FPC) recommended the proposed Multi-Purpose Facilities after evaluating existing district facilities, enrollment and program needs and long-term facility priorities. These facilities would provide safe, climate-controlled spaces for athletics, fine arts and other District programs while helping protect students from extreme weather and supporting compliance with UIL's 2023 Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) safety guidelines.

The Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) measurement evaluates heat stress by considering factors such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, solar radiation, sun angle and cloud cover. The Heat Index only considers temperature and humidity.
